From street food trucks to naked wedding cakes, 2020 brings us some innovative and inspiring wedding trends to implement into any Asian wedding.

As time goes on, we see many modern weddings reverting back to a more traditional Asian wedding style, with a slight twist on the typical cake, dress, decor and more. With the common saying that less is more, we have seen weddings become more minimalistic over time. Couples are beginning to incorporate more greenery and subtle pastel hues into their ceremony, whilst focusing more on sustainability at the same time.

If you’re planning your 2020 Asian wedding, you might be interested in some of the wedding trends that have taken the Asian wedding community by storm.

Making a grand arrival

The arrival of the groom is a well-awaited moment for any wedding. In recent years, we have seen a variety of extravagant grand arrivals for the main party of the wedding. One of our favourite grand arrivals is the arrival by helicopter.

Kanya Aagaman is a monumental moment in any Asian wedding, which simply translates to ‘the arrival of the bride’. Known as the bride’s first appearance at the wedding, the bride is led by her father to the altar who passes his beloved daughter over to her new husband. Some popular methods of arrival by the bride includes horse and carriage.

With an exclusive landing pad nestled between the lakes and woodland of Ladywood Estate, we can offer an impressive helicopter arrival for any couple or members of their wedding party. Of course, this provides the perfect opportunity for a momentous photograph.

Semi-Naked cakes

Wedding cake choices are typically vibrant and very extravagant, with more tiers and height than a more typical wedding cake... For the minimalist couple, semi-naked cakes are a beautiful and stylish way of adding to a rustic theme.

Semi-Naked cakes usually have thick layers of buttercream between each tier of the cake, with a very thin layer of cream on the exterior. The idea is that you can still see the layers of the cake through the layers of icing. The cake is then dressed with beautiful fresh fruit or flowers.

Live Food Stations

Whether you’d like traditional Asian street food to cater for your entire wedding reception or a late-night snack for your guests, live food stations can be the talking point of any wedding.

We have seen a rise in food trucks used in Asian weddings over the past few years, making it a top trend for 2020 and beyond. If you like the sound of delicious street food served up in a retro and stylish food station then this could be the perfect option for you. Many food trucks have taken to renovating an old rickshaw by adding a kitchen to it which offers a real Indian street food vibe. Not only is this a cool and trendy way of serving your guests a bite to eat, but it’s also unique and adds that personal touch to your day.

Blue lehengas

Classic Blue was recently announced as the Pantone Colour Of The Year 2020, so we think we’re likely to see an increase in brides wearing this vibrant colour.

Lehengas and sarees are worn by the bride and are typically red in colour due to most brides favouring the vibrant colour. However, in recent years, some brides have gone against tradition and have decided to opt for a blue lehenga instead.

Blue symbolises trust and responsibility, which makes it no surprise that some brides have decided to wear blue on their special day instead of red.

Mandaps

Typically used in most Asian weddings, Mandaps are usually adorned with beautifully placed floral arrangements. A great way of making your Asian wedding stand out is to design a bespoke Mandap with your decor company. These can be designed bespoke with your decor company, Krystal, one of our prefered suppliers providing this personalised service. As a Country House Asian Wedding Venue in Leicester, we have seen hundreds of beautiful Mandaps over the years.

Photo booths & Statement Deco

Photo booths are becoming more popular at weddings over the past year or so. It adds a unique experience for your guests and is the perfect way to capture hundreds of photos and memories of your day. It can also be a lovely way of looking back and seeing your wedding guests enjoying your special day. Make sure to get all the fun props for your guests to wear in the booth, giving them the option for serious photos and silly ones. One of our preferred suppliers, Limelite, offer photo booth hire for weddings in Leicester and the surrounding areas.

Another statement decoration includes bespoke backdrops or giant light-up letters, which acts as a stylish prop for a wedding scene.

Flower walls

Flower walls create a stunning backdrop for any wedding or special occasion, so there’s no surprise that this is one of the latest wedding trends. Flower walls can add a feature wall to any wedding venue and can implement the great outdoors into an internal room, making the perfect opportunity for beautiful photos.

They are usually decorated with white peonies, roses, and gardenias. Some flower walls contain greenery to add more colour, although some are just floral decorations.

Floral ceilings

If you’re looking for something a little more unique we love how floral ceilings work the same way as a floral wall. Rather than the floral decorations applied to a wall, they are applied to the ceiling of a venue. Floral ceilings are sure to impress all of your wedding guests.

It’s a beautiful way of adding colour and brightness into your ceremony or reception if your venue decor is fairly plain.

Eco-friendly favours

Wedding favours are a way of thanking your guests for attending your wedding festivities, as some may have travelled from afar. A creative and sustainable way of producing your wedding favours is to gift homemade jam, cookies, meringue, soaps, tea blends or plantable seed paper.

Creating eco-friendly favours is a thoughtful way of gifting to your loved ones in a way they’re most likely to make use of the gift rather than disposing of it later on.

Muslim weddings, known as nikah, are joyous celebrations that blend religious significance with cultural traditions. While the core principles remain consistent across the Islamic world, the specific customs and rituals can vary widely depending on cultural background, geographical location, and family traditions. This comprehensive guide aims to provide an in-depth look at Muslim weddings, covering everything from religious requirements to cultural practices, planning tips, and modern trends.

Whether you're a bride or groom preparing for your own wedding, a family member involved in the planning process, or simply curious about Muslim wedding traditions, this guide will offer valuable insights into the beautiful and diverse world of Islamic marriages.

Pre-Wedding Rituals

Muslim weddings often involve several pre-wedding rituals, which can vary significantly based on cultural traditions. Here's an expanded look at some common pre-wedding events:

Proposal (Khitbah)

Traditionally, the marriage proposal process begins with the groom's family visiting the bride's family to propose marriage formally. In contemporary times, this may occur after the couple has already expressed mutual interest in marrying each other, reflecting evolving social norms.

Etiquette plays an important role in this process. It is customary for the groom's family to bring gifts for the bride's family. These gifts, which may include sweets or flowers, serve as a gesture of goodwill and respect, helping to establish a positive relationship between the two families.

During this visit, families engage in discussions about compatibility, plans, and any potential concerns that may arise regarding the union. These conversations are crucial for ensuring that both families are on the same page and that the couple is well-prepared for their future together.

In some cases, families may perform or request Istikhara, the Islamic prayer of guidance, before deciding. This practice reflects the importance of seeking divine guidance in the decision-making process, reinforcing the significance of faith in the journey toward marriage.

Engagement (Mangni/Nisbah)

Once both families reach an agreement, an engagement ceremony is often held. While this event is not religiously mandated, it is a widely practised cultural tradition that signifies the commitment between the couple and their families.

A pivotal moment during the engagement ceremony involves the exchange of rings. This practice is common in many cultures and symbolises the couple's intention to marry; however, it is important to note that ring exchange is not an Islamic requirement.

The event typically begins with a recitation from the Quran, setting a spiritual tone for the gathering. This recitation blesses the occasion and emphasises the importance of faith in the couple's journey ahead.

As the ceremony unfolds, elders from both families bless the couple. Their words of wisdom and encouragement provide a strong foundation for the couple as they embark on this new chapter in their lives.

The engagement period can vary significantly, lasting anywhere from a few weeks to several months or even years. This flexible timeline allows the couple and their families to prepare for the upcoming wedding and solidify their commitment to one another.
